Why ObGyn: What initially drew me to the OBGYN specialty, was the opportunity to impact patients and communities across their lives. OBGYNs serve a population that is the cornerstone of so many of our communities—creating a unique opportunity to advocate for health equity and justice from within our most marginalized patient populations. As a Black woman in medicine, I have always been passionate about improving the health experiences of marginalized communities and can think of no other specialty that aligns with this mission more so than OBGYN.

Why UCSF: Growing up in the Bay Area, I’ve always looked up to UCSF as an institution that provides not only high-level, patient-centered care, but also serves as a leader in health equity. I chose UCSF not only for the excellent clinical training, but also for the opportunity to learn and work in an environment that proudly values diversity among its providers and within our communities. After my sub-I here and throughout the interview process, I was continually impressed by the support I received from both residents and faculty, and left feeling confident that, if given the opportunity, training at UCSF it would be an excellent fit!
