Passing of Bill Parer

Bill Parer, MD

August 4, 2016

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is will tremendous sadness that I write to let you know that our friend and colleague Bill (Julian) Parer died yesterday afternoon. He died doing what he loved most, hiking with his beloved dog James on Mt. Tam.

Bill was a valued and well-loved member of our Department for many years, and will be sorely missed. He contributed a tremendous fund of knowledge in the area of fetal heart rate monitoring and management of Rh disease. He had numerous unique and valuable skills that he passed on to our junior faculty and fellows, including the performance of abdominal cerclage placement and fetal blood transfusions. Just this past June, he proudly celebrated 40 years of his very successful course, Antepartum and Intrapartum Management (AIM).

Mostly, Bill brought a spirit of the true academician to our Division and Department. He was the fellowship director for many years, and the program thrived under his leadership. Just a few days ago, he was interviewing applicants for our MFM fellowship, and spoke about what a wonderful group of applicants we were able to attract again this year. He was always striving to assure we continue to have the best programs in the country.

Honor to Bill, and comfort to all,

Linda C. Giudice
