New Generation Health Center
New Generation Health Center (NGHC) is a unique, freestanding, community-based center dedicated solely to youth. At NGHC the emphasis is placed on providing a teen-friendly environment and serving an ethnically and racially diverse community in a culturally appropriate manner. Located in the largely Latino Mission District of San Francisco, NGHC offers a unique combination of health and social services to young people ages 12 to 24.
NGHC's mission is to help teens avoid pregnancies by providing a comprehensive range of services including medical services, social services and health education to young people. Services include family planning, sexually transmitted infection diagnosis and treatment, community outreach and education and activities to increase life options. The clinic also offers an after-school enrichment group for teen girls. Examples of NGHC's innovative community outreach programs include peer educators who teach curricula in Bay Area schools; the Male Involvement Program, which aims to involve adolescent males in reproductive health activities; and a social marketing project to develop educational bus shelter posters, posters for schools and brochures for teens.
