Dr. Gates' clinical practice consists of both obstetrics and general gynecology. She founded the Owens Street Ob/Gyn practice in 2013 and has served in multiple leadership roles throughout UCSF, including as chief of the UCSF Medical Staff. Dr. Gates has received multiple awards for teaching medical students and residents at UCSF.
Dr. Gates' research interests include medical ethics, research ethics, ethics in reproduction and women's health, human subjects protection, genetic testing, human embryonic stem cell research, surgical innovation, new technologies, medical decision-making, and reproductive choice.
