Research/Clinical Interests

Dr. Lamar is a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist who specializes in preventative care, pregnancy, breastfeeding, contraception, menstrual disorders, vulvovaginal health, pelvic pain, and menopause. She has a special interest in office procedures, including hysteroscopy, treatment of cervical dysplasia, and surgical treatment of miscarriage, with a focus on providing optimal pain relief in a supportive environment. She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease with expertise in treating gynecologic skin disorders and vaginitis.

Dr. Lamar is involved in both medical and midwifery student education, with a focus on training our next generation of providers to combine evidence-based medicine with compassionate, individualized care. She is also invested in elevating the quality of the dialogue surrounding home birth in the United States, and participated in a documentary on this subject in 2016. Also in 2016, she led an initiative at UCSF to make cesarean deliveries at UCSF more family-friendly, with a focus on keeping mothers and babies united as much as possible during the surgery.
