About Me

Why OBGYN?

I have known I wanted to be a physician since I was very young. As a child, I was fortunate to receive care from one of very few Black pediatricians in Memphis, and the relationship I built with her convinced me that I could be anything I wanted to be. In the summer of 2010, I attended a summer session at Phillips Academy at Andover where I took a gross anatomy course. When dissecting our cat, we discovered that she had been pregnant. As most of the class moved on, I was mesmerized by the uterus and its contents. This experienced, coupled with the recent birth of my first niece and my sister’s experience with pre-eclampsia, sparked a genuine interest in birth and the peripartum period. As I explored more about reproductive health in college, I learned of the maternal health disparities that exist in the United States and how reproductive health is viewed transnationally. While teaching, I realized the severe reproductive health knowledge deficit of my students and worked to address this in our curriculum. All these experiences culminated during my OBGYN clerkship – I was attracted to the variety of the field, both in clinical experience and in diversity of the patient population. It is the perfect match for my love of high acuity care and desire to build long-term relationships with my patients.

Why UCSF?

I have wanted to train in this program since my first year of medical school when I solidified my interest in OBGYN. UCSF OBGYN & RS program has an apparent and long-standing history of leading the path toward equity and justice in reproductive health. Growing up in a medically underserved community, it is important to me to receive training that equips me to care for marginalized patients in settings with few resources, and UCSF is the perfect place for this.

I am very excited to explore the Bay Area, try all the cool brunch spots, and visit wine country! I love to dance, especially to Beyoncé’s music, and I spend a significant amount of time watching HGTV to plan my dream home. I can’t wait to learn and grow with my new UCSF family!
