About Me

Why OB/GYN? Growing up in South LA in a single parent household created a tight bond within my family, as my grandmother, sister, aunts, and cousins all supported my mother in caring for me. Early on, they demonstrated how to advocate for myself and encouraged me to follow my dreams. They instilled in me a strong work ethic, dedication, and perseverance. From my resilient community of women, I knew that I wanted to pursue women’s health and during my third year of medical school I was immediately drawn to the field of OB/GYN. I enjoyed being in the OR, assisting in deliveries, and running OB Triage. However, what really drew me to the field was the alarming maternal mortality rates among Black women. I immediately thought about my mother, my sister, my aunts and every other Black woman who visits the doctor. This motivated me to pursue a field where I could listen to my patient’s concerns, center their needs, and advocate on their behalf.

Why UCSF? I instantly felt a connection with the residents and faculty. They were warm, welcoming, and just as passionate about reproductive justice as I am. After attending a Centering Pregnancy class at UCSF, I knew that I wanted to be here so I could gain the knowledge and the resources to better care for Black women. Being trained at UCSF will enable me to return to South LA and comprehensively treat women’s medical conditions while also addressing the social and structural factors that impact their health.

What I do outside of residency? I love being with my family and friends. With my sister being a chef, our family events are always filled with amazing food, games, music, and fellowship. I also enjoy the outdoors – beaches, hikes to waterfalls, and walking around new cities. Lastly, I am a foodie, any activity that involves food, I am there.
