About Me

I grew up in Los Angeles and was raised by my incredible mother who immigrated to California from Iran. I was the first person in my family born in the US and am (currently) the only person in my family with an American name! My mom raised me by herself and instilled in me a strong sense of justice for standing up for others and encouraged me to prioritize my education. I became a doctor because I felt like I had the support to do so, even though my family came from an underserved community. I have lived in Los Angeles, New York City, Southwest Virginia, and am now back in my home state of California for residency.

Why OB/GYN?

I originally wanted to become a doctor because I wanted to take care of underserved populations, particularly individuals who were left behind by the healthcare system or who faced housing or food insecurity. As I went through my medical school rotations and rotated through OB/GYN, a field I had never considered, I saw individuals working tirelessly to ensure their patients got excellent care. The physicians I worked with embodied the word ‘advocate’ and fought hard for their patients. The most incredible faculty member I worked with started her own non-profit to serve her community, and still made time for medical education, mentorship, and her family! With all that said, I also saw how unfair medical care was to pregnant people and how much of medicine suddenly did not apply because the patient had a uterus. I saw physicians going above and beyond the confines of OB-GYN to provide comprehensive care to the patient in front of them. On a personal level, I feel really connected to the patient population OB-GYN serves and I enjoy the continuity that the field provides. Getting to really know my patients drives me to become the best physician I can be. OB-GYNs work very hard, and those that I have met tend to go the extra mile to do what’s right for their patients. Plus, the variety of the specialty keeps things fun!

Why UCSF?

I did an away rotation as UCSF! I originally applied because it was one of the best programs in the country and because my partner had lived in San Francisco. When I arrived at SF General, I was greeted by the most impressive and kindest clinicians I have ever met. I saw people who cared so much about their patients, who went the extra mile to get to know them and their condition, and who were so deeply invested in making sure they got the care that they deserve. The residents I worked with on my away rotation were incredibly well-rounded, amazing human beings who happened to also be the hardest workers in the room. After spending one week at the General, I had found people that I wanted to emulate, and I knew that I had found my home. It is my goal to become a physician who serves his community, and the General is such a critical component of San Francisco. UCSF is an impressive place all around, but the training with the Ob-Gyn department is a harrowing, transformative experience that invites residents to become the best, brightest, and most awe-inspiring versions of themselves. We have the most diverse residency program in the country, and I am so fortunate to be here learning from the very best in a culture that promotes growth and equity.

Outside of Residency

Believe it or not, I have a full and rich life outside of medicine! I love music and have a robust vinyl record collection. I love going to concerts, playing guitar, and talking about music production. I also have a 3-year-old dog named Jimmy that I rescued in medical school who has driven across the country with me 2 times! I love spending time with my friends, who I consider family. My ideal day involves Dolores Park, a vegetarian burrito, my dog and my partner, Matt, and laying under the sun on a warm day.
