About Me

Why OB/GYN?

Pregnancy is, generally, an incredibly defining time in a person's life. It is at once profoundly personal, but it is also a time when many people's interactions with the healthcare system are not only magnified but dramatically high stakes. Because of this, OB/GYN is a space that allows opportunities for intense conversations about a person's goals and aspirations around their pregnancy and beyond and allows physicians to support a person in myriad ways. I enjoy these opportunities for collaboration with patients and the OB/GYN's ability to step in and be their greatest advocate in clinical settings when things go wrong. Additionally, the physiological changes in pregnancy are fascinating, and we still do not fully understand how they work. I want to be that person who can not only help the individual patient in front of me but also help lead scientific discoveries that can improve maternal health—and women's health, in general—in the future.

Why UCSF?

While researching programs for OB/GYN residency, I prioritized a program that offered varied clinical experiences, deeply understood the sociocultural contexts in which people sought care, and leaned into incorporating a patient's individual life experiences into care delivery. These priorities are fundamental to UCSF's mission, and learners are surrounded by a compassionate and caring community that helps center our patients' lived experiences in excellent care. Additionally, I am interested in an academic physician-scientist career in women's health, and the robustness of research and culture of collaboration among members of the department at UCSF and within the greater UCSF community is evident. Finally, as a San Francisco Bay Area native, serving the vibrant and diverse communities where I grew up is an added perk of a world-class institution like UCSF.

Outside of Residency

Outside of residency, I enjoy spending time with my partner, children, and extended family scattered throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento regions. I value volunteering and community service and spend much of my free time working with individuals and organizations that aim to advocate for marginalized groups and fulfill the tenets of reproductive justice. With whatever additional time is left, I like my series of self-care hobbies: reading anything and everything I can get my hands on, knitting/crocheting/sewing/spinning, journaling, and working out (namely cycling and getting back into weightlifting and long-distance running).
