About Me

Why OB/GYN?

My decision to pursue medicine was greatly inspired by my heritage. Growing up as a child of Kurdish parents, I learned a lot about the significant contributions of physicians during the wars my family experienced, and I was constantly reminded of the uniquely privileged position that physicians had in society. I realized that I could dedicate my life to a career that would allow me to treat individual patients while supporting vulnerable communities that have been impacted by tragedy or discrimination. I ultimately decided on the field of obstetrics & gynecology when I began to consider the greatest influences in my life – the women who raised me. This new passion was solidified on my OB/GYN clerkship rotation, during which I was drawn to the combination of primary care and surgery. I shared many heartfelt conversations with patients, and learned more about their unique backgrounds and goals, as well as their struggles and losses. It became clear that this field would allow me to empower my patients and develop longitudinal relationships, while advocating for gender equity, inclusivity and the overall protection of my patients.

Why UCSF?

I fell in love with the UCSF OB/GYN program as soon as I explored the website. The program’s emphasis on patient-centered care, social justice and inclusivity was unmatched. It was immediately clear that the program would challenge me and provide me with exceptional clinical and surgical training while allowing me to pursue my personal passions. On my interview day, I shared several sincere and inspiring conversations with the residents and faculty at UCSF, all of whom appreciated my story and authentic self. I am honored to be a part of the UCSF OB/GYN family!

Outside of Residency

I was born in the UK and lived most of my life in the UAE. I moved to the US in 2012 when I started university and I am excited for my new life in San Francisco! Outside of residency, I love being outdoors and enjoy picnics, hiking and long-distance running. I enjoy being on the water and am a certified scuba diver. I’m also a big foodie and love eating out. Furthermore, being raised in a Kurdish household, family is incredibly important to me, and I am always eager to make trips back home. I also love spending time with my friends, whether that’s at karaoke, trivia nights, watching movies or playing board games at home!
