Dr. Josephine Urbina is an Ob/gyn and Assistant Professor in the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. She currently specializes in providing advanced abortion care and complex contraception thanks to her fellowship training in Complex Family Planning. Dr. Urbina is the Director of Gynecology and Gyn Surgery and also co-directs the Gender Inclusive clinic at SF General’s Obstetrics, Midwifery and Gynecology clinic. She is also the newest Director of the Undergraduate Research Internship (URI) program. After completing medical school at la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, she completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in NJ. She’s passionate about normalizing abortion care within the Latinx community, amplifying Latine representation in Family Planning and Ob/gyn, language justice and culturally concordant care. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, her work is informed by an understanding of the role that structural inequities play in shaping health.
