My vision is for the Department to be the national leader in reproductive health, equity, and justice. I know we can do it; we have the will, the commitment, and the passion.

Andrea V. Jackson Chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences

Dr. Andrea V. Jackson is the Edward C. Hill, M.D., Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (OBGYN & RS) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). A dedicated physician, researcher, and advocate, Dr. Jackson has spent her career advancing health equity and reimagining what is possible for women’s and reproductive health.

Since joining UCSF more than 15 years ago, she has led at every level — first as a Complex Family Planning Fellow and Medical Director at Zuckerberg San Francisco General, then as Division Chief for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Gynecologic Subspecialties, and now as Chair of a department known for its clinical excellence and justice-focused mission in reproductive health.

Nationally recognized for her leadership, Dr. Jackson has shaped the fields of workforce diversity, clinician training in health equity, family planning advocacy, and Black perinatal health. She co-founded both the UCSF Black Women’s Health and Livelihood Initiative and EMBRACE, an innovative perinatal program that centers racially conscious prenatal and behavioral health care for Black birthing people and their families. Her scholarship and educational leadership have been honored with awards, collaborative research partnerships, and national recognition.

Dr. Jackson earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering at Cornell University, her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and fellowship in Complex Family Planning at UCSF. She also holds a Master of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research from UCSF.

With vision, purpose, and humanity, Dr. Jackson leads with the conviction that reproductive health care must be just, equitable, and transformative.
