For nearly 20 years the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences has proudly ranked #1 or #2 for National Institute of Health grant funding within ob/gyn departments across the country. Our scientists advance treatments for ovarian cancer, maternal mortality, and IVF.

Our department houses the Center for Reproductive Sciences (CRS) which promotes high quality, cutting edge research in the field of reproductive sciences. CRS goals are to facilitate the transfer of concepts developed in the laboratory to clinical applications and to provide an integrated interdisciplinary training program for future leaders in the field of reproductive sciences.

Department research programs include environmental impact research on reproduction, social science research investigating reproductive access and care, and global research on HIV and cancer prevention efforts.

Research by the Numbers:

  • More than 33% of our faculty spend over half of their effort doing research.
  • Over 100 research grants were submitted last year
  • 40% of our Department revenue comes from research

Ob/Gyyn & RS Research Committee:

The Research Committee led by interim Vice Chair of Research, Cynthia Harper, meets monthly to develop programs, services, and infrastructure to support the Department's research enterprise.
