The goal of this non-ACGME fellowship is to train and prepare general obstetricians and gynecologists to
pursue a clinical research career in an academic department. Fellows will acquire
enhanced skills related to research design and conduct, dissemination of research results,
multidisciplinary academic collaborations, grantspersonship, as well as inpatient and
outpatient generalist clinical practice.
General Obstetrics and Gynecology Fellowship Details
Director: Kathryn Fay, MD
Fellows will devote 75% of their time to research and research training. Research training
will include completing the two-year Master’s Degree Program in Clinical and
Epidemiological Research. This graduate program is an advanced course of study for
students who seek training in the methods and conduct of clinical research. In addition to a full course of study in
epidemiology, biostatistics, and advanced research methods, the graduate program
includes works-in-progress sessions where students discuss their ongoing work with peers
and faculty mentors.
Fellows will provide clinical care in outpatient and inpatient general obstetrics and
gynecology including prenatal care, labor and delivery, outpatient and surgical gynecology.
In a given month, a fellow will typically complete 2 clinical sessions per week and 2
inpatient obstetric call shifts. The fellow will also take up to 2 weeks per year of inpatient
gynecology call sessions. Additional information regarding salary and benefits is available

Prerequisites
- Completed their clinical education in an ACGME-accredited or an AOA-approved residency program on Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Eligible for independent United States licensure and board certification. Applicants must hold a valid U.S. medical license and be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Willingness to apply and fully participate in the Master’s program or demonstrate prior graduate degree in clinical research methods
Fellows are selected following a holistic review using a structured evaluation. Selection is informed by research interests and potential, academic achievement, letters of recommendation, and commitment to an academic career in obstetrics and gynecology.
