Black Health

Course Objectives:

This course will present a weekly examination of topics impacting African American health in the United States though:

1) Discussion of systemic barriers that impact the African American community with a particular focus on elements that contribute to health disparities.

2) Presentation of current research results and methodology that provide a greater understanding of the profound scope of these disparities.

3) Evaluation of current efforts to address these disparities at UCSF, within communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, and on a broader scale.

 

Course Requirements:

 

This is a pass/fail course. For full class credit, students are required to attend at least 8 of the lectures offered.

Make-Up Session:

Students who require a make-up session can receive one attendance credit by attending a California Preterm Birth Initiative monthly collaboratory event and writing a one-page reflection.
